Direct mailing is a staple in business advertisement. Without the benefit of direct mailing, businesses may suffer due to the lack of advertisements that are circulated to those who do not leave home often. Direct mailing comes from a printing company that has made a flyer, postcard, et cetera, that draws the consumer's attention to the benefits and highlights of a business. There are some people who are extreme home-bodies and do not often "go to town" or go out enough to see sales or advertisements. The direct mailing list allows businesses to reach these people in their own homes. Other businesses do not have locally owned stores or services, and rely heavily on the mail traffic to get word of business spread as widely as possible.

Direct TV is one of the several major service providers that does not have a local storefront in every city. Due to this, Direct TV relies heavily on direct mailings. Many have seen the 8.5" x 11" flyers that have come in the mail; sometimes they come with the Sunday newspaper.

Pharmacies and other local businesses

Pharmacies and other stores, such as antique shops, may send out post cards to remind locals of weekly sales and offer special promotions. Most stores offer different promotions once a month or on holidays to bring in more business.
